How to Prepare for Your Yoga Class
- Wear comfortable clothing to stretch easily.
- Yoga is best practiced with bare feet and on an empty stomach. (Avoid eating 1-2 hours beforehand)
- Avoid wearing perfumes, colognes, etc. or smoking cigarettes before class.
- We encourage students to bring their own yoga mats, but we do provide free loaner mats and props. (These are also available for purchase at either studio.)
- Inform your instructor if you have injuries, are pregnant, or have any medical conditions that may require caution.
- Please enter the yoga studio quietly to support our meditative environment. If you are late, please do not enter the practice space while class is in opening meditation.
- Attend your correct class level to ensure your comfort and that of the other students.
- Please turn cell phones and pagers off during class. You may leave your cell phone with the desk attendant if you are expecting an important call.
- Class schedules are subject to change at any time. Please continue to check our website, as these schedules will always be the most up to date.
- Classes of less than three students may be cancelled or shortened at the teacher's discretion.
Choosing Your Classes
1. What Level am I?
- Level 1 Yogi = I'm new to yoga.
- Level 2 Yogi = I've done some yoga, feel comfortable practicing modifications for poses I'm working on, and want to continue and expand my practice.
- Level 2/3 or 3 Yogi = I've been doing yoga for awhile, practice a variety of poses including inversions and backbends, and am looking to challenge myself in new ways.
2. How Much Will I Sweat?
See the "Sweat Factor" on the schedule indicated by the number of chili peppers next to the class. Classes range from zero to 3 peppers.
3. What do I want to gain?
I'm a Beginner
- Beginning classes are geared towards first-time yogis AND students continuing to build the foundations of alignment and breathing.
- If you want a rigorous practice, choose Beginning Ashtanga/Vinyasa or Beginning Yoga for Flexibility.
- If you want a more relaxing practice, choose Beginning Yoga, or Yin Yoga.
- Beginning Meditators should choose Meditation.
I want to challenge my practice
- Try: Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow, or Vinyasa Workshop.
I want something gentler
- Try: Hatha, Yin Yoga, or Restore & Renew
I'm Pregnant
- Try: JAI Prenatal Yoga or Couples JAI Prenatal Yoga. After you have your baby you can return for Yoga Bonding® Postnatal Yoga, Yoga for New Mommies, or any regular classes to get your body feeling strong post-delivery.
I’m a bigger person and want to practice yoga in a comfortable setting
- Try: Big A@&! Yoga™, a class that provides modifications for different body shapes.
4. Decide how many times a week you want to practice yoga.
To see results, we recommend that you practice at least three times a week, either at our studio or on your own. Plus, it's cheaper per class the more often you come! Call us and we'll help you find the best fit for classes with your schedule: 612.436.4700.
5. Register!
Register for a Quarterly Session, or purchase a drop-in pass for the quarter in person or over the phone. Please note that you must register and pay in advance to save your spot in all quarterly sessions, workshops, events and visiting teachers, and trainings.
Register early - these classes fill up quickly! If you are new to the center, please arrive 15 minutes early to fill out a new student form or download it here and bring to your first class.
Our classes run on a quarterly schedule. Many classes are DROP-IN classes, meaning no pre-registration is required. Quarterly Sessions require pre-registration and pre-payment to hold your spot. These classes meet once per week and the material builds throughout the quarter. You can begin at any time, provided there is space in the class. Classes run from 60 to 90 minutes. Yoga should be practiced on a regular basis, and it is recommended that you practice at least three times a week either in a class setting or on your own. All yoga classes will help increase flexibility and strength, but to find a class to suit your needs, call the studio at 612.436.4700 or see below.
** Children and teens ages 11 and up are always welcome in any of our Beginning Yoga classes with or without parent.
