If you are new to the Yoga Center of Minneapolis, please print and complete a New Student Form and bring to your first visit, or arrive 15 minutes early to fill one out before your first class. Cost for 4-week series: $50.00

The Absolute Beginner Class is for those new to yoga, and meets once each week for 4 weeks. This class will provide you with the tools to get started: yoga classes, fundamentals of yoga asana (poses), pranayama (breath work), and answers to your questions on the various forms of yoga or your personal practice. The Yoga Center of Minneapolis has always strived to provide high quality yoga classes with some of the most experienced and inspiring instructors in the Midwest. Our Yoga Center instructors draw from a vast range of respected yoga traditions; all have exceed the minimum amount of training and experience required to teach yoga effectively, and many have and trained and taught around the world.

We understand that each student is unique and comes to yoga with different goals and needs. Whether you are coming to get in better physical condition or simply stop the chaos of your mind, there is a style of yoga that is right for you. Therefore, at the end of the four-week series, you will have the opportunity to consult with your instructor about your personal goals and choose the next yoga class(es) that will move you toward these goals. The "Absolute Beginner Class" series requires preregistration and will have a student limit to ensure a quality experience. How to prepare for class.

Beginning Hatha Yoga (Click For Class Times)
This 6 week class is for all beginners and anyone wishing to deepen their foundational knowledge of Hatha Yoga. Each six week class will help you to develop a safe understanding of basic yoga postures, their benefits and help you build confidence to move to the next level!

Beginning Vinyasa Yoga (Click For Class Times)
This six-week Beginning Vinyasa class is for anyone and everyone who is seeking to learn more about the fundamentals of a more rigorous practice that links breath and movement for a moving meditation. Poses are generally held for a shorter period of time so that transitions may become part of the poses themselves. This allows for more poses to be practiced during a class. Generally, these classes are more rigorous than what we term ‘hatha’ classes, and may involve sun salutations. This class will prepare you to attend any vinyasa based style of yoga such as Ashtanga, Slow Flow, Urban Flow, Jivamukti, and more.

Beginning Big A#%! Yoga (Click For Class Times)
This fun, challenging, and inspiring class is designed especially for bigger woman and men who want to begin yoga but want to do it a setting where everyone is similar in size and shape. Instructor and YCM owner Jennifer Gray (a retired Big A#%!™ herself) and others will help all students find yoga poses that work for their current body type and create a beneficial yoga practice for all. This is not a sedentary class rather a class for those looking to become stronger, more active and have fun.

In this class you will:

  • Create a body mind connection
  • Learn yoga posses that strengthen and tone
  • Gain trust and find enjoyment in moving your body
  • Laugh and have fun!!

Big A#%!™ yoga does not focus on losing weight and how you should look. This class strives to help you to building self-trust and learn to reconnect and enjoy your body again. Through this transformation the rest will follow suit as you wish and anything is possible. We call it Big A#%!™ yoga so that everyone knows they are coming to a place where they can laugh and be comfortable with who they are. Any other name just wouldn't be as fun! Who should come to Big A#%!™ Yoga? Anyone who feels they are out of shape, plus size and simply just wants to be a yoga class with those who are in the same boat. There is no weight requirement - but please be aware that these classes are meant for those who are plus size or close to it.

A NOTE ON PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS: We look forward to helping everyone find his or her potential in their own yoga practice. If you are working on getting up and down from the floor we can help you. But please note that Big A#%!™ classes are not necessarily appropriate for individuals with major limitations such as recent knee or wrist surgeries, severe arthritis or an inability to get down to the floor to sit or be on your hands and knees.
