Instructor & Staff Information
Moya McGinn Mathews
Moya has always loved to move. Running and dancing were things she did as a child and never stopped doing when she "grew up." After her husband's sudden death in 2000, Moya joined a fitness center hoping to meet new friends who also loved to run and play. She tried all sorts of group fitness classes at the center, and when she stepped onto a yoga mat for the first time, she thought, "I don't know what this is but I know I need to do it!" Through yoga, Moya discovered not only a joyful outlet for her love of movement but also a powerful vehicle for emotional, energetic and physical healing. After many months of attending every yoga class the center had available, she asked the instructor if it might be possible for the fitness center to offer more yoga. The instructor responded, "Sure. You could teach," and directed Moya to the Yoga Center of Minneapolis' Yoga Study program.

Moya remains grateful to her teacher, Doris, for that advice, and to all the wonderful, dedicated teachers at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis, especially to her mentor in the Yoga Study program, Betsy Weiner. In addition to the Yoga Center's fine staff, Moya has been fortunate to benefit from the teaching of Seane Corn, Tias Little, Darren Main, David Garrigues, David Williams, Govinda Kai, Doug Swenson and David Swenson. After completing the Yoga Study in March, 2006, she completed an Ashtanga Yoga teacher training with David Swenson in August of 2006. She is an enthusiastic student of the practice of yoga, particularly the Ashtanga tradition, always seeking to deepen and refine her own practice.
