What is the Yoga Study 230-Hour Program?
The Yoga Center of Minneapolis offers a 9-month Yoga Study program with the same contents as our year-long program but geared towards those wishing to complete the program in a shorter period of time. Designed for any student wishing to deepen their knowledge of yoga and its philosophies and/or teach. We are a Yoga Alliance Registered School (RYS 200).
The Yoga Center of Minneapolis is very proud of the successful Yoga Study Programs it has produced in past years. We pride our selves on the continuing integrity and depth of each program. With the high standards we expect of our own instructors and those that study with us we feel the we are the most comprehensive Yoga Study program in the Twin Cities. Each year we add to and improve the program as the need for safe, quality instruction and a growing interested yoga community arises. This program not only helps to prepare people to teach what they know - it is experiential and therefore allows each student the time they deserve to absorb and understand what Yoga means to them.
What are the Yoga Study time commitments?
Over the initial 7 months, this program will meet weekly the Downtown Minneapolis Studio for trainings on a variety of core subjects in the areas of: Philosophy, Alignment, Anatomy (physical & energetic), and Methodology. Students will also be required to attend weekly Technique Sessions, which focus on various yoga styles and topics specific to asana and pranayama techniques. Choose from Thursdays 7:30-9pm Sessions or Sundays 11:30am-12:45pm (or both). The last two months include continued technique sessions, finishing electives, and a15-hour mentorship with a certified YCM instructor of your choice. Mentor groups will meet separate from the classes mentioned above and schedule will be determined by student and mentor.
What makes this program different from other teacher trainings?
Many trainings around the Twin Cities offer study in only one specific tradition of yoga or sequence of poses. The Yoga Center of Minneapolis offers one of the most comprehensive yoga study and training experiences in Minnesota and exceeds the requirements of Yoga Alliance. Our instructors and facilitators for these groups are amongst the most senior teachers in the area and have provided the quality and foundation of this program for many years. This program will introduce you to a variety of styles and prepare and empower you to teach yoga in the style of your choice. Upon graduation, not only will you have experience in creating your own sequences and understand the principles of creating a balanced class, but you will also have a deeper understanding of Sanskrit, anatomy, yoga philosophies and traditions.
If you are simply looking for a way to deepen your practice and understanding of yoga philosophy but not teach, the program can be tailored to your personal practice. The program also includes a mentorship so that you may work one-on-one with an instructor to assist you in teaching or take your practice to the next level. In addition, each Teacher Training/Yoga Study group will plan and run a community outreach event for a population that would not otherwise be able to access yoga classes. This rewarding experience is often the highlight of each group. As a Yoga Study graduate, you are exclusively able to attend advanced level “Technique Sessions” designed to further your practice, knowledge, and teaching skills.
